CAD Craftsmanship: attention to detail... designers

All our professional tradesmen, carpenters and joiners have undergone timed served apprenticeships to a city and guilds level or the equivalent NVQ. We are fully equipped with apparatus ranging from traditional hand tools to the latest power tools and laser technology. Our methods, equipment and approach to projects complies with the latest health & safety legislation.

Alongside our contract and development activities, we also offer a range of domestic services such as loft conversions and kitchen building / fitting. We are very proud to offer French polishing – this traditional craftsmanship can be used for restoration, artefacts, listed works and all modern day technology. Furniture damage and restoration of musical instruments can also be catered for.

Woodfellas have earned a reputation for first class finishes, and we continue to strive for excellence in our work and promote the company motto “attention to detail”. Managing Director (and hands-on craftsman), James McLaughlin is a director of the Institute of Carpenters and holds the highest award of Master Carpenter and Joiner Licentiateship with the City and Guilds of London.

James, our managing director is Southern Regional Chairman at the Institue of Carpenters. On a recent visit he took a few photographs and thought it would be interesting to share these with you. Craftsmanship is a prime consideration for James and his objective is to try and keep the traditional aspect of the trade and teach the new generation so we don't lose the skills, knowledge and finish we once took for granted.

The Institute of Carpenters (IOC), aims to promote excellence in the use of wood and exists to support members who aspire to the highest standards of workmanship and professional conduct. It was founded in 1890 by 11 craftsmen who had achieved first classes passes in new exams set by the Worshipful Company of Carpenters. The Institute, whilst remaining committed to its original aims of ensuring each generation of carpenters and joiners upholds the highest traditions of our craft, now embraces many other wood crafts and offers professional status to those holding recognised qualifications.
