Overview
In 2005, Woodfellas were awarded the contract of the complete refurbishment fit out of No.9 Colmore Row by Jim Nania, MD of Stortford Interiors Ltd. The Project was called Isis and the main contractor was Structuretone UK of London.
9 Colmore Row is situated in the heart of Birmingham's commercial quarter and is at the centre of Birmingham's professional and financial community.
Contract contained:
Total refurbishment of building.
Complete new reception and security area on ground floor.
Refurbishment of No.9 Floors to accommodate new office facilitations.
Each floor consists of its own toilet Male, Female and Disabled.
Basement includes maintenance offices and electrical service stores.
The Reception The reception and the front desk was fitted and constructed by Woodfellas Carpentry and Joinery Ltd. For the reception area a grid system was designed by the architect to be made in American white oak consisting of panels with a 15mm shadow groove to give a dimensional finish to the wall areas. The shadow grooves were hidden into doors built in line with the panel construction and access panels formed for services. Construction of the panelling had to incorporate the lift area, electrical storage and service duct area with a recessed door reveal for security office, canteen and toilet. This also contained high security locking devices called mag-locks which were fitted to all the doors. These designs were taken into account and designed on site with Woodfellas, Stortford Interiors and the Architect to complete the best finish possible in high polished carpentry and joinery. Panels, although sprayed finished in the workshop were given a pad of French polish for that extra smooth silk finish.
Offices New fire door frame sets were fitted to lobby area, fire escape and toilets with finishes in American white oak. The duct services doors were half hour rated and plywood painted.
Toilets Every floor had a complete new toilet block fitted, this included a Male, Female and Disabled toilet. Woodfellas played a key design role in the IPS Panelling of these toilets, from the structural timber works to create a finished IPS system featuring fully accessible ducts for plumbing and air conditioning services.
All vanity units constructed in timber frame and cladded with marble on the top. Wash basins inset and finished with chrome taps and a horizontal marble fascia at front of units. Underneath front panels at the bottom were made in laminate for easier accessibility to service plumbing.
